When I reflect on my life, I sometimes wonder if would I choose a different path, one with less resistance. But I am firm in my conviction that I would not. I deliberately choose to stand against the odds, against injustice, against dictatorship, against norms that are defined for us and not by us. I could have chosen a life with much less anguish, with less pain, but to do so would have come at a cost.
Every society, every company, every office, and every corner on this planet has people who misuse their power to suppress others. The challenges of life are inescapable. Everywhere we look there is hardship and difficulty. There is turmoil in the world around us and often even in within us with which we must battle. To live successful and liberated lives we must overcome these challenges. Giving up is not what we do, we survive, we resist, and we live. You will need to stand up for your cause, for what you believe and be the change you want to see.
We should not to give up under difficult circumstances, be it personal or professional life. Not to surrender, to the circumstances that is created for us. Walking smooth paths are easily, taking difficult paths worth it as not many in this world choose difficult roads to impact change.
These inquiries echo across both Eastern and Western worlds. I vividly recall women from Afghan villages questioning whether Western women are excessively progressive and if they neglect family values. Stereotypes around the world persist, misconstruing the realities of Eastern and Western societies.
Our perceptions shape our social and political outlooks and actions at work. Regrettably, these entrenched views, even if untrue, can become our subconscious reality. In today’s polarized world, can we carve out a third space, liberating ourselves from the confining boxes we’ve constructed?
While surmounting the wall of misconstrued realities is a challenge, the construction of a third room is not only possible but is necessary to foster peace and unity in our increasingly polarized world. As a CEO or employ, if you don’t want tackle the styrio type misperceptions in your office, your surrounding, it will affect your staff moral, their performance and can lead to stressful, less productive environment.
The take away is, we are living in a divided world. The division is growing with the awful conflicts, perceptions towards one another on the base religion, gender, race is the cause of division. We must tackle it before it affects our work environment, our country or neighborhood. We are living in a world filled with divisions, it is us who can create further divisions or bridge the distance.
Many around the world Monetize war, isn’t it time to monetize peace? I will share my experience of Talking to the world’s most nutritious and anti woman group, the Taliban. I sat down with them and negotiated a better Afghanistan for one year. Not an easy decision, not a pleasant job. Perhaps the world’s most stressful job, but everyone can walk in a paved road, do we dare to get out of our comfort zone?
