Misogyny Prevented Mrs. Rasoli from becoming Supreme Court Judge

Mrs. Anisa Raso5BDFDBDB-443F-4B10-9A11-05264E849FA9_mw1024_s_nli was nominated few weeks ago to become Supreme Court Judge. If confirmed, she would have been the first female in Afghanistan history to serve in such a position. But disappointingly, lawmakers in the Lower House have failed to give the women of Afghanistan that victory.

Mrs. Anisa Rasoli attended the Lower House hearing yesterday to have the lawmakers decide whether to confirm her, but she did not receive enough votes to become the Supreme Court Judge. Why not? Because there were 21 female lawmakers absent in the meeting. If their votes  were cast, Mrs. Rasoli could have surely meet the requirement.

Gender and sexism was another problem for her. In a parliament mostly dominated by men with misogynistic mentalities and tribal and religious beliefs, there is already a hint that women will never survive in there.
